@steveadams Hey, I’m impressed man, that is great. I really love the shape and all the carving you’ve done on the body. Are you going to build any more guitars? Have you caught the bug yet? Yeah I know you have. 🤘😁🤘🎸

Make guitars, not war 🌍✌️🎸

@steveadms

Looks very good what did you use to finish the body

Some people call me a tool, others are less complimentary. Tools being useful things.

Once you've started, it's difficult to stop ...  I mean, you've got the tools now, and the skills, and the ideas for the next one, and the one after that, and the one after that ...

Nice work.  What's that you're using to put the logo on the headstock?

Hey TV

Any day now my Bailey acoustic kit will arrive....am v excited...

My friend has a laser cutter and we did some tests, it cuts and burns the wood very slightly, the black of the letters is from the burning not even any paint...

cheers

Steve

I'm going to be very interested to see how you get on with that.  Did you get the sides pre-bent, or are you tackling that yourself?

I'm still watching my way through the acoustic course, trying to decide whether I *dare* try a kit-build (and whether I've got enough of the tools), or whether to get on an acoustic build course as soon as the world gets back to sufficiently normal.

So, interested to see what you make of it!

it cuts and burns the wood very slightly,

I wondered if that was it!  I've thought about trying some pyrography on guitars before - just to do some logo type decoration - but not got any further than thinking about it.

Yet.

Hi Steve, the build looks great and I'm pleased that you found the Fiddes oil a nice product to use.

If your mate has got a laser cutter then you could also do some marquetry headstock inlays. Let me know if fancy having a play and if you need some veneer to get going with just give me a shout and I'll post some out to you.

Cheers

Darren

Hi Steve

Your build looks very good!

My Bailey Acoustic Kit is sat in the workshop - I am just waiting for the weather to improve a bit and then I will get started.......

I must work through the Acoustic Course videos a couple of times before I start making sawdust.

Measure once........
Measure again.........
Sod it - make tea!

I'm going to be bending the sides myself...it's going to be a very big learning curve, I'm working through the acoustic course just watching everything...The last few live streams have been great seeing Mark do the acoustic build.

Hey Darren

Yes, loved using that oil so thanks again. I think ti had the right balance of some sheen but very tactile too. I should have maybe shot some video to show it going on...

My logo has a star and I tried (on some scrap!!!) to manually cut out the shape but I was rubbish. No idea how Mark is able to cut out so well...The laser cutter goes about 2mm deep I think.

I would love to try and get a cutout on some veneer, that woudl look very pro. Thank you for your kind offer, so yes please..

Cheers

Steve

Hi Bill

We'll have to compare and share experiences as we build...

My hydromoeter says my shed is 80% humid, so when the kit arrives I think I may have to keep it indoors and just take it to the shed to work on. I hope it doesn't "shock" it too much. My shed is insulated on all walls/ceiling  and floor so I thought it would be better in terms of humidity..

When I made my Bailey electric I made a rough duplicate in pine and practised on that, but I realise with the acoustic that wont be possible...sooo....deep breath and begin 🙂

cheers

Steve

@steveadams

I've just watched the side-bending lesson this morning.  It doesn't actually look that hard, and using the iron actually looks safer than using the big jig thing.

Though Mark makes most aspects of guitar building look easy.

@steveadams The guitar looks great

On the bending iron...it’s a little nervie at first but it does get easier. Certain woods bend easier than others. Rosewood ends up feeling like plastic and bends lovely once it warms up, mahogany for example is more difficult and can splinter a little if you panic and rush to start bending. I prefer to keep the wood a little more moist but you can tell in the hands. The online course does help loads...

This was my first try out and I nearly p%ssed myself...

@steveadams I think you can see some on the body build I did for the first build using the online acoustic course. I think the side bending is around the 5mins Mark if you can’t be bothered watching the whole thing....
