@koendb You need good quality to start with. It’s impossible to get an edge on soft metal. Do you have any particular brand names or a collection of older ones.

@darrenking Oops you can tell I didn’t do metalwork at school. I should know the difference though and you were correct. Learning the correct way to sharpen the blade was a game changer.

Planing by hand is tricky as one deep tear out can ruin a piece. I mostly use a scraper plane for thicknessing which takes longer but doesn’t tear. @rocknroller912 Thanks for sharing your experience!...
