his is amazing to see, I kind of wish I’d posted all my bits n bobs in one thread rather than ‘look guys, I did a thing’ everytime I make some kind of sawdust. @cheesewhisk You still can, I use… Read more»

I used a complete straight edge to copy route all the actual straight edges onto the template. Well done @cheesewhisk, as long as you got there in the end. Did you then make a backup, is that what’s in the… Read more»

@cheesewhisk Looks great! I finished the body template for my less spiky bandsman. Looking forward to the finished article you create here! It looks like you’ve made a pattern from the pattern, was that just to test it or am… Read more»

I’m a bit worried about copy routing the pointy bits,
Looks great @cheesewhisk. I’d probably rout up to near the edges and finish it off by hand with a sanding block. 🤷🏻♂️

@cheesewhisk Yes it’s pretty much standard in quality guitars these days and Mark uses the Stew Mac brand. A while ago there was a discussion on the live stream about finding cheaper alternatives to buying from USA. Famous players from… Read more»

@cheesewhisk – it really depends on how noisy (in terms of electrical interference) an environment the player is going to be playing in. It’s a nice touch, a good sign of “I’m a proper guitar builder” and not hard to… Read more»

Use what works @cheesewhisk! I mainly use metric but somethings (especially string action and fretwire) I use imperial.
Although when I measure action on a concert guitar I use metric 🤷🏼♂️ so yeah, whatever you like. -

Any advice on the volute?
As @TV101 says, watch how Mark does it, pay attention to where he carves the facets and where the bump should be relative to the nut, copy that and the volute just appears.

@cheesewhisk Looking good. My favourite bit of neck carving is the volute.

Looks great so far @cheesewhisk, have fun shaping the volute!

@cheesewhisk Do you work in imperial measurements? 😳

Judging from your photos @cheesewhisk it doesn’t look like squeeze out for days. But It does sound like you figured the problem out by missing the nail hole… sorry about that.
How about a close up photo of the fretboard alignment? -
Robin replied to the topic "Not only do I suck at routing, I suck at gluing too." – 4 years ago
I don’t think I found the nail hole on the 10th fret when I lowered the fretboard onto the neck. I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there @cheesewhisk, if the pins are located then it just can’t… Read more»

That means you used too much glue @cheesewhisk and that’s possibly why your fretboard got off center, it was too slippery. It’s not my usual behaviour, but I’d have to agree with @mattbeels just this once. There’s also a difference… Read more»

@cheesewhisk It sounds like a sticky experience.

Also even though I checked, double checked, screwed holes and hammered nails, I still managed to glue it slightly offset.
Another learning experience @cheesewhisk. 😁
