I just wanted to show off my first guitar built from scratch using Mark Bailey’s online courses “Design your own Guitar” and “Build your own electric Guitar”.

On a recent holiday to Scotland, I picked up some second hand machinery.

The pickups I used in this Bailey Bandsman are Hot Slags from Iron Gear.

I started this project in my garage/workshop at home with two trestles from Aldi, a piece of MDF board, a few clamps and a cat.

Wearing my PPE I then started to make the patterns and jigs from the course videos. I used MDF and some other wood I had in stock. I just took my time and followed the instructions that Mark gave me until they looked just like his.

I made a base plate for my router and some more jigs and patterns.

Oh I then went to a beer festival. Note: I never use power tools or work on my guitar with any hand tools if I have had any alcohol.

With my 1:1 plan drawn out, I could then start thinking about bringing the guitar wood to the bench.

This video shows me inspecting the various woods that I purchased from Mark.

Marked out neck blank for long cuts on the bandsaw before making the cuts.

Checked that the truss rod, fretboard and nut lined up with the marked line and with each other. It started to look like a neck.

I used the headstock pattern to drill the holes for the tuners which I then test fitted.
