Hot slags....? ?  ?  ?

Joking aside..... Budget PU's can sound great. I've had similar experiences wit Wilkinsons and Toneriders.

Measure once, cut straight away and maybe you're lucky......

This is amazing to see, I kind of wish I'd posted all my bits n bobs in one thread rather than 'look guys, I did a thing' everytime I make some kind of sawdust.

@cheesewhisk You still can, I use this "Showcase" section to log everything for each build in its own respective thread. Start a thread and put your pictures and comments in every time you do something new. You could go and delete all of those threads and put it all into one. Start a new thread every time you start building a new guitar. 👍

Start a new thread every time you start building a new guitar.

And that's a good way of keeping a record that you can check back to in later builds.

Many times I've reached the stage of doing something on a build, and thought to myself "how did I do that bit on XYZ build?".  I've got loads of pics on my PC of the various builds, but the discipline of posting regular progress pics on a public forum means that I tend to take more pics, and more detailed pics, particularly of the tricky/interesting bits.

Then, when I look back, odds are that I'll find the stage that I'm looking for.

@tv101 Yep, that’s why I do it, not just for myself but for everyone else, present and future guitar builders. We are creating a big guitar building database really, that’s how I see it, so I try to structure all my uploads as much as possible for human-readability. It’s too chaotic for humans to search through ad hoc, random uploads, it is unnormalised data. I try to normalise the data I input so everyone else can make sense of it much easier (I hope). 😆

You've never tried searching this forum - even for something that you posted yourself - have you!

I don't think the posts here quite meet the usual definition of "normalised"

😉

@tv101 I have searched for things and I attached tags to all of my threads.

But I hear what you are saying, there are some very un normal posts 🤣

The pickups I used in this Bailey Bandsman are Hot Slags from Iron Gear.

@boo I wish I’d asked you for some sound samples now, those are the same pups I chose for my build!

@tej I ve got  a hotslag in the bridge position on my Ibanez. It sounds so much better then the original Ibanez pickup.
Pretty hot pickup. You'll love it

@koendb excellent, looking forward to hearing it once I get everything together 🙂 I dropped a Dimarzio True Tone (think that’s what it’s called) into the bridge, mainly as a sadly quite expensive experiment with so called premium pickups. It’s better but certainly not enough to justify the cost. It’s be interesting to test it against another cheaper one with the same resistance as it’s a more windings that the stock Ibanez one so it’s not really a fair comparison.
