Answer to: Mirka Deros

Well done - the air version wasn’t an option for me - my compressor isn’t big enough - the dust hose goes straight into my shop vac and that has a power take off setting. Just have to remember not t...

RE: Wood suppliers

Agreed on the prep - I have a cheap planer thicknesser that can cope with half a body blank at a time so could take thicker wood, prepare two halves of the body, and get it joined then through my sand...

RE: What is an oily rag and where can you get one?

When I first saw ‘oily rag’ I started thinking Cockney Rhyming Slang - oily - oily rag - fag - cigarette…… 🤩……..

RE: Drilling bridge holes

If your neck pocket is tight then the neck will be in the same position so you should be able to drill bridge holes now - can't see it being a problem - only issue would be if the neck can wobble side...

RE: Finishing/gluing…and sanding

Not tried finishing before glueing in neck - would the oil make the glue joint weaker?

RE: Finishing/gluing…and sanding

Think finer grits are for removing scratches from coarser ones not for removing lots of stuff..... You've got to love sanding - and got to love your Mirka....... Waits for Mirka haters to start lobbin...

RE: Installing frets

I have thick, medium, thin and very thin superglue…… For fret filling I use the thin - the thinner it is the easier it ‘wicks’ - that also means that it can go everywhere…….

RE: Installing frets

@Tej I use thin superglue and only add small drops - the drops vanish down the slot, usually by the time you get to the end of the fretboard you can go back to the start…..

RE: Installing frets

Superglue works - you do need to apply it in 3 or 4 passes on end side then when dry do the other - too much at a time and it will run down the fretboard and then it takes more effort to clean up. How...

RE: Truss rod terrors.

Think the truss rod size changed - now a 6mm truss rod comes with the kit - not at home to check - you need to make the slot wider at the adjuster end - message Mark to check……..
