I'm taking your advice Mark and trying the easier solution and replacing the abalone dots. I think it's the answer. It also leaves the fingerboard clean and minimal but should fix the low-light playab...

In order to neatly remove the current 3mm abalone side dots should I attempt to accurately mark the centre with a "pokey thing" and hand drill the full 3mm or use a smaller drill bit and hack the rest...

the other technique, my favourite, is to play it again and glare at the rest of the band... hey, that's jazz for ya!

Looking for tips on installing frets above the 14th over an acoustic body once the neck is glued on. Seems like hammering is out of the question. Squeeze with a clamp maybe?

It could look classy if you plug nicely with a contrasting wood and re-route? I'm sure that's one of your ideas anyway...

actually running a straight edge along the frets I find the zero fret is no higher than the others - how did that ever work - it did though...
