Robin replied to the topic "Looking for a fret spacing ruler" – 1 year, 4 months ago
@nortski Sorry, I misunderstood what you were looking for. I’ve been buying preslotted fretboards, so I haven’t cut fretslots myself yet. I was thinking about just measuring out with a standard ruler to cut them on my current build though.

@nortski Just be careful when you’re copying the holes over. Because the main image is projected from the an angled face it will appear shorter that the headstock image. The widths will all be right, but you’ll need to move… Read more»

@nortski I think they’re pretty much the same but they tend to refer to the straight cutters as trimmers and the shaped cutters as profilers. In saying that if you’re following a profile with a straight cutter then it’s a… Read more»

@nortski string splay is fine, most 3 aside headstocks have it to varying degrees with zero issues. Straighter string pull is generally more desired if fitting a non locking trem because then you want the strings to glide as smooth… Read more»

I quite like the compact (thin and pathetic) headstock.
This was my first of that style, I had filled and drilled some of these holes several times to get it as good as that.

@nortski I’m assuming that you haven’t drilled the tuner holes yet. If you want the string to be straight then your right, the tuners need to be closer to the center line. Your best option is to draw what you… Read more»

@nortski I think it’s just the way he builds guitars, there’s also a lot of info to try and make into a course so bound to be the odd thing here and there.

@nortski In the end it will be personal preference of course, but there are practical reasons too. The way Fender does it allows for a nice transition between the fretboard and the top surface of the headstock (while securing the… Read more»

@nortski I think there’s a bit of confusion here, basically if you look at say a les paul or prs they have the nut at the end of the fretboard. I think Mark calls a bolt on like a fender… Read more»
