@rathius Hi Rathius and happy new year to you. You really shouldn’t be seeing this kind of failure if the veneers are bonded properly in the first place and it suggests to me that they haven’t been pressed firmly to… Read more»

@rathius sorry buddy, been busy and not on the forum but yes, super easy. Just rout the truss rod like usual but out the other end. Skunk stripe for one piece necks, fit the rod in from the rear. Mark… Read more»

@rathius I do all the fretwork etc first before gluing a neck in or attching wings with a neck through, so much easier lol. As for recessing, just sort your neck angle to suit whatever option you’re going for, above… Read more»

@rathius yes, you can do set neck, bolt on or neck through. Makes no odds at all. A lot are bolt on for convenience I expect. Just get your dimensions from the floyd makers site. From that you can alter… Read more»

swepri replied to the topic "Vintage lipstick pickup question" – 1 year, 5 months ago
@rathius Or, a simpler solution. Move the springs to the inside of the legs of the bracket, under the pickup. That would allow for two simple drilled holes for the springs and more thickness under the tabs of the bracket.

swepri replied to the topic "Vintage lipstick pickup question" – 1 year, 5 months ago
@rathius Since the margins are small, maybe you could shorten the springs a little? I would try to calculate the required pickup height over the body and go from there to derive the depths, taking into account the string line… Read more»

@rathius From the measurements you’ve given, looks like your first thought of 42mm depth would be right, I’d be a bit concerned about only leaving 3mm thickness on the back though. But its only the springs that go to that… Read more»

@rathius I’m not familiar with these pickups at all. Do you really need the top of the pickup to be flush with the face of the body ? How high will the strings be, how close to the strings do… Read more»

@rathius yeh I’ve been using those, I do a shallow recess in the top for them to push into so the nob can still sit flush at body height. But I wire all that point to point then just… Read more»

@rathius for joining wires but you’re connecting wires to tabs, back of pots, side of switches etc. I’d use them to fix a car though lol

@rathius what happened with the necks?
I used some yew up the middle of my latest but I’m starting to think it wasn’t dry enough, ended up proper bowed lol. Anyway I’m using good old brazillian mahogany now. -
Brian Walker replied to the topic "Build #4 (formerly build #3 😂)" – 1 year, 5 months ago
@rathius Google mahogany mixups the lowdown and go to the wood database result at wood-database.com its an interesting article about “mahogany “. The website has loads of useful information about many different woods, use the Wood Filter to search for… Read more»

@rathius It’s got loads of graphite in it, very thick stuff and messy to work with. Make sure the body around the cavity you’re painting is well masked, it’s a real pain to clean any splashes or errant brush strokes…. Read more»
