@jamesalexandermcmillan I’ve finished solid wood with a drying oil only and no lacquer or varnish. It’s very forgiving as it doesn’t crack or chip if knocked and any minor dents can just be rubbed down and oiled again. With rattle… Read more»

The sanding sealer I used was the same make as the lacquer, it was Craft Supplies which was bought over by Turners Retreat a few years ago. I think their current brand is called Chesnut. -

@jonhodgson Ive tried melamine lacquer when I first started making instruments, a long time ago. It wears well but dries hard so is not ideal for acoustics as it stiffens the wood making it less responsive in transferring mechanical energy… Read more»

@rajbcpa I just checked one of the acoustic builds I’m doing according the the Martin D28 plans. The bottom block glued onto the sides is 4 3/4 inches high finished size, so if you have this from the good edge… Read more»
