@tej For stuff like that, I’ve used a round file before. I use a really fine, thin, round file (a chainsaw sharpening file). Be careful just to push the file down into the hole and along the top edge to… Read more»

@tej Its possible to clean out the finish build up from post holes by running a sharp knife carefully round the inside. I know this sounds scary but the knife will take paint off without damaging the wood. It’s best… Read more»

Progress on the body finish
@tej It’s looking superb. One thing I would advise though is that you mask up the neck pocket at least, it doesn’t matter too much about the pickup cavities. 👍

@tej What I’m thinking now is to do that to get the built up finish off and then colour the hole with soft graphite pencil lead and go over again until I’m back to wood, I think I only need… Read more»

@tej Only concern now is that the bridge is a very tight fit in the mount holes, I hadn’t masked off the bridge post holes when I lacquer my current build, so the holes have shrunk with all the lacquer… Read more»

@tej Hey man, I’ve somehow missed all of this, just caught up now. It’s all looking superb and you just have to work through the mistakes, it’s part of the job. I’m looking forward to seeing the finish. Keep going… Read more»

My version is a piece of MDF with a couple of cheap toggle clamps from Amazon screwed into it 😬

not sure about others but I used a table saw with a jig I use to square rough planks. Happy to elaborate with picture if it’s of use?
Some pictures would be great @tej.

@tej Titebond is very permanent which can be good but it’s a nightmare when doing repairs as the level of heat needed to soften it is bad for the wood in my opinion, particularly on acoustic instruments where the wood… Read more»

@tej I would agree with you about fixing broken instruments for education but you have to know your limits and not cause further damage or try to over repair something valuable which can ruin it. Factory instruments can be impossible… Read more»

It must be bad if you don’t want to show it. Scraping is sometimes better than sanding to remove a failed finish as sanding can just rub it further into the grain. I’ve been there so learned the hard way. -

@tej Its difficult to comment without seeing a photo but not all instrument finishes are designed to be even all the way over, and stain often looks bad until the final finish coat. Sounds like you have created a relic… Read more»

@Tej, I thought about laser cutting a template for paint, but the problem with that is you need a design with no holes in it, but it might be a good solution if your design works in that respect.I’m looking… Read more»

Ive thought about doing things a different way, like doing a two wood headstock say rosewood and ebony instead of a plain one colour. Tried it once it worked ok. -
