RE: Sealing Ash with minimal finish.

Nightmare wood, but very sonically bright and I've got loads of the stuff through decades of tree surgery.

To help with open grain Ian at 'The Paint Centre' Newton AbbottΒ  recommended 'Rustins Sanding Sealer'. It works wonders with two layers applied by brush/rag, obviously flattened prior to top coats of whatever you chose - Naptha based so will accept most finishes and dries mega quick!

Wish I'd discovered it years ago!

Used olde floorboards for the CR8 model TeleStrat body - Danish oil finish.

Very straight grain Ash for neck.

Reverse printed images/type onto photographic paper and applied direct to bare wood.Β

Compound radius.

Plays and feels great!

Client happy

Can anyone tell me why would youtube demonetized this? Just happens to be my most popular livestream so far...

Absolutely no clue given by The Almighty Youtube so I don't know what I did wrong - maybe you can help?

I have contacted them using the feeble, limited means available to me (I was allowed to click a button to contest the decision)

This is the main reason I have builtΒ The Guitar Making Academy, and we're not depending completely on YT... Let's see what happens...

see you's all tomorrow!

Not sure myself either Mark. I don't think there was any promotion or advertising or even comments on anyone else's products......... other than showing us Darren's fretting jig but I can't see how that would effect things. Let's know if you find out

Cheers,

Russ

Really interesting video Mark.

Here's my fourth build so far. It's got one of your pre-made fretboards on top of maple but the body is made from some old Ikea pine bookshelves (which I got a friend to cut and thickness for me). It's certainly the lightest guitar I've ever held - can't wait to finish it and destroy the tonewood myth. πŸ™‚

Guitar making is the art and science of turning expensive wood into sawdust.

@markbailey

Strange thing to happen, what are the rules for posting videos on utube. I though it was a great topic because most home builders start with a kit due to not having a big workshop.

Some people call me a tool, others are less complimentary. Tools being useful things.

Hi Mark,

I've done a bit of checking and evidently any mention of 'coronavirus', 'covid 19' or 'pandemic' can have your videos demonetised. You do mention the lock down and pandemic measures towards the end of the live stream (1.21.15). Could this be the reason?

Seems trivial, but if a Bot is making the decision then I guess you've just got to be mega-cautious. Hope the appeal goes through and let us know the original cause of the ban.
