I’m trying to plan what woods to use for the neck and fretboard. I’m looking at fretboards today.
What do you think? Is this pale moon ebony too much? 🤣 (I think so)

Or this piece of Panga Panga?

I do have some Walnut and other bits and bats too.

Try and imagine the scratch plate and silver flake in gold.

@boo

The pale moon ebony looks good, it flows out nicely from the lava lamp effect. I think I'd find it confusing to play though.

@robin Yeah I suppose it does but I think I agree with your thoughts on playability as well, it could get very confusing.

I think that it would not matter if you make sure you have contrasting side dots, or make the side dots in two tone, just make em big enough.

If the outer circle is black, and the inner part of the side dot is white, it would be contrasting enough overall, no matter if it is light or darker colored section

I would go with that ebony, it looks sooo good.

Stunning pieces of timber there.

Don't know whether they'd end up competing for attention with the guitar body, and whether that would detract from the stunning-ness of the fretboard?

@koendb Yeah I understand, good idea. I’m going to play some of my guitars and concisely see how much I use the dots. How often do I use the front dot and how often do I use the side dots? I’ll see. 👍

@tv101 Yeah I thought that too, that it may be too much for this project. There is enough going on with the guitar body already maybe. Once all the gold is shining back at me and the paint is blinding me, I think a more normal fretboard could be a tonic for the senses. 😎✨🎸

@rocknroller912 Hmmmmm…… You’ve given me an idea for another project now. 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I can do a blue and white ish (more like silver, unless I use a white flake, which I do have) version of this one. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🎸

@tv101

Have you seen the Mad Scotsman on utube. It’s a bit rude to post on the forum but very funny.

”There’s nae Irn Bru” joke video.

All masked up and ready for gold. 🥇✨✨✨✨🏆

I’ll do this bit with my airbrush, then unmask it and take it into my outdoor workshop for several coats of clear coat.

Got some gold on but I used an extra bit of lining tape on one side of the gold areas, to keep it silver.
