What are peoples’ opinions of using decal stickers etc on guitar builds before applying a finish.

Has anyone done this before? If so tell us about your experience, let us know any triumphs and failures, and show us some pictures.

Yay or nay or maybe?

@boo

Hmm, could be super cool if done right. I like the f holes on the PGM (I know they‘re painted) but not sure on the Bandsman. I think they’re too big for that body. It could be sweet but I think I‘d actually prefer real ones.

Practice on scrap...

Try it...you can always sand them off. It’s only money 😬

I have too many guitars...said no one in the world..ever!

F-holes, generally, yuk.  It’s an ancient design, on a modern instrument.

F-holes, on a classic semi design (335) are, I suppose, a necessary evil.   But still evil.

Pretend f-holes on a modern design?  Yucky yuk yuk yuk.

Yup, I’m pretty open minded on the subject.

I'm all for decals @boo.........but I do think those f-holes are just slightly too big for that body. As Deej said though, you could sand them off of you don't like it.

To be honest, I misled you, I don’t think I would put them on a Bandsman.🤣

I bought them for this PGM Mikro. I’m going to repaint it as the factory paint has yellowed from being in the sun. Can you see it in this photo?
I’ll do some crazy paintwork on it but because it’s a PGM it deserves to have the decals reapplied I think. It’s Paul Gilbert’s signature design on his Ibanez signature models so I have to stick with it. Plus, the next time I record an online video exchange for him (using this guitar) and there are no decals, he may ask “What the hell have you done to my guitar?”

In the end.. If you like it, you should do it. it is your guitar after all, you do not need anyone's approval imho 🙂
