My OCD engineering mind has gone into overdrive now. Isn't a 12" drum going be a 6" radius, rather than the 12" radius you want for your sanding blocks.
@clinton I didn’t notice until @robin corrected you, I should have listened more in maths at school! 🤣
Make guitars, not war 🌍✌️🎸
Having only radiused 3 necks I probably can't add much to the excellent advice already given (I clamped the neck, used a short radius block, and check with radius gauge frequently) but one thing I did notice - when I was following the centre line correctly, the sawdust marks on the block were even, which gave me a very quick visual clue.
I saw a video from Crimson yesterday (are we allowed to mention the competition?); before radiusing Ben put a pencil mark along each side of the board showing desired finished thickness. Again, this would be a good visual clue.
The thing I have to remind myself is that all the YouTube luthiers have been at it years and have 'the power of edit'. If it takes me all day to do something a pro can do in minutes then so be it - I've spent the day doing something I love (unless it's fret level, crown, & dress).
That fretboard looks very cool btw.
Guitar making is the art and science of turning expensive wood into sawdust.
the sawdust marks on the block were even,
That's another excellent tip @rockpile99.

@rockpile99 Thanks for the additional tips! I like the sawdust in the center of the block tip, as well as marking the edges of the board with a pencil to see when you've accomplished the correct thickness.
