Hello Peeps,

Do you think it would be possible to replicate this look using 6L machine heads or would you have to mix and match with left and right ones?ย

A friend of mine built a kit with fender style neck and modified it to this style, I suspect that he used the six tuners from his kit. Iv'e asked him for a photo, and I'm sure he'll reply to me eventually.

@russย  My friend has replied, he used the standed kit tuners, so either 6L or 6R. He's on holiday just now and will send me a photo once he's home.

@russ You can buy a set of mixed tuners in that configuration Iโ€™m almost sure of it. You may have to search for them a bit harder but Iโ€™m sure Iโ€™ve seen them somewhere.ย

@russ Just remember that L doesnโ€™t mean left handed or R doesnโ€™t mean right handed.ย

Imagine you are looking at a guitar when it is on a guitar stand. Look at the tuners. If, like a right handed Strat, all 6 are one one side, that side is the left (L). If the guitar had a reverse headstock or it was a left handed guitar, all the tuners would be on the the other side, the right (R). Itโ€™s weird, I know, but thatโ€™s how it is.ย

I've always found axetec's stuff to be pretty good quality / VFM (with special mention to their incredibly good VFM pickups!)
ย
It's all MIC stuff, but seems to be consistent quality, rather than taking a gamble with odd ads on eBay.
ย
www.axesrus.co.uk are also worth checking out - they carry a wider range including some recognised brands, but also have their own stuff available.

Sperzel locking tuners can be converted from right-handed to left in a jiffy.........

Measure once, cut straight away and maybe you're lucky......

Hello Peeps,

What's your thoughts on the best post size on these Machine Heads for a Strat style headstock?ย

@russ I like to use the staggered ones.ย

Thanks @boo. Would I need staggered ones if I opted for a 4-2 setup?ย

@russ I would say no, use shorter posts for all six. Either angle the headstock or if you are going with a parallel headstock design, use a string guide bar. Whichever one you use, I think the shorter posts would suit it, I love the low profile appearance and you can make the headstock slightly thinner as well if you wanted to.ย
