Hi all, new member here and starting to accumulate the basic tools for an electric build.
I’m wondering if i should buy the cheapest bandsaw option or go for the next level.
Both options are from Carbatec in Australia. The 10” for $550aud vs the 14” for $1k aud.
The 10” has 125mm cutting depth, ie more than the min recommended 100mm .
But I am leaning towards the 14” because:
- I have read that 14” will be more stable and less prone to blade breaking due to a more shallow bend.
- more powerful
- 200mm cut depth
- heavier
Obviously would be nice to save $450 if the cheaper would suffice.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The smallest one will be just fine but
Go for the biggest one if the budget allows - you will thank yourself for it later 😎
200mm depth of cut will allow you to bookmatch your own caps (providing you have a fresh blade) - that can pay for itself.
Always great fun getting a new bandsaw - don't forget to order some spare blades - happy hunting!
Measure twice, cut once...
@blake Hey Blake, I would definitely go with what Mark @markbailey has suggested. When I started collecting my tools, I bought a small bandsaw and I soon realised that I could definitely benefit from having a larger one. I have found that because my woodworking skills are continuing to improve, I use the bandsaw for other jobs besides guitar making. I am not a joiner/carpenter but I am becoming an amateur one, I love it. Go for the bigger bandsaw if your budget allows. I am now saving up for a bigger bandsaw.
Welcome to the forum and the guitar building revolution. 🤘
