I've been building guitars from parts and a few kits, without much of prior skills except maintaining my own guitars.
Now its time to step it up and make my own neck and body. That s why decided to become a member of this community.
I don't have a particular goal in mind, but I like to see how far I can push myself. A telecaster will be my first scratch build since I got all the wood and plans ready to go for that.
The templates have been cut already and now waiting for some router bits and other tools to arrive or to be made.
Don't have a place to do the wood work, so I need to wait for a little bit better weather and do it outside for now.
Some of my finished partscasters/kit builds:
Work in progress:
This is a kit I got as a Christmas present. The issue is that the neck is a 24.75" scale length neck, while the TOM post holes are drilled for a 25.5" scale length. I decided to repurpose the neck for another project and buy or carve a new neck for this one.
The neck of the thinline tele kit I described above is repurposed for this:
Ikea table top leftover as body , started from a DC Junior template, but I altered the design to fit the bolt on neck.
I also made this a 4+2 headstock instead of a 6 inline. 2 Iron Gear P90 pickups and a Wilkinson wrap around bridge.
Neck will be joined with ferules and shorter screws, because my body blank is only 3.8mm thick.
And these are the templates for my first scratch build.
@koendb Welcome to the guitar building revolution. This is one place we can welcome our EU friends without any politics getting in the way. Your kit builds look great, I started that way too. You’ll be building your own guitars from scratch sooner than you will know it and you won’t want to go back to kits any more (not that there is anything wrong with kits).
All are welcome here, any help you need, just ask. We all make mistakes and we all fix them with and without each others’ help. If you are unsure about anything along the way, just come here to the forum and we will help.
Rock n Roll. 🤘😁🤘🎸
Make guitars, not war 🌍✌️🎸
