Hi everyone, I'm Chris, a Build Your Own Electric Guitar maker from about 20 years ago... which is frightening to think that it was so long ago. I was chatting with Carol over email recently and she mentioned this site, so I thought I'd join up and say hello.
My upcoming guitar project is replacing the electronics in an old Yamaha Pacifica that I recovered from my parents recently. It was my first guitar a million years ago when I was a teenager, so there's some significant nostalgia attached to it and I'd assumed it had been disposed of long ago. It turns out my folks held onto it. It's all still fundamentally sound, surprisingly, with the exception of the electronics, which are almost completely shot.
So, other than stopping by to sign up and say hello, I'll probably be looking for some advice on that side of things as I get going with the project next month.
Cheers for now,
Chris
Welcome Chris. I'm sure you'll get some great advice from a few of the folks here. I'm busy trying to get up to speed on the guitar electronics just now. I can highly recommend getting the book by Gerry Hayes if you haven't already.

It is the best guitar wiring guide that I've come across. Even I can understand it.
Enjoy the ride.

Thanks @russ
I haven't seen that book yet but I'll check it out. I only rediscovered the guitar the other day, then after a restring and plugging it into an amp on Sunday discovered the shambles of the current electronics. So, this project is very new in my mind.
@chrishamilton Welcome!
The book Russ recommends is very good, covering most of the stuff needed to wire a guitar or troubleshoot it.
Welcome to the community from someone even closer, I live along the road near Falkirk, although I'm a bit further west just now over in Argyll.
Hi again Chris,
Was just thinking about your electrics problems, the most likely culprits are probably the volume and tone pots and the pickup selector switch. Try cleaning these with contact cleaner spray, it might just get some life back in the system, I did just that recently with a friend’s Strat copy that had been sitting unplayed and neglected for years and which he didn’t want to spend too much money on. Might get it going enough to assess what needs replacing.
Brian.

I second that. Anyone playing around 'under the bonnet' so to speak, should definitely have this book by their side.

I second-second it. A great book that covers a huge amount of ground.
Also, sign-up for his weekly emails for more free, but really useful/valuable, content. Gerry seems to be one of the good guys.

Awesome book and really nice person. I ask him hordes of question and he's always attentive. His sketchy setup serious is also lovely. Dead simple
