My favourite bass player is Bernard Edwards. He is best known for being with the band Chic and for one of the most iconic bass lines in the history of pop music in the song Good times. It seems this bass line was sampled in 208 songs.

@tv101 I saw Norman playing with Wilko in Hertford shortly before Wilko’s near death/miraculous recovery phase. I have to say that I have never before left such an overall great gig with my main impression being how effing amazing the bass player was. Just astonishing! I will never forget it.
My first ever bass guitar hero, the thunderous Steve Harris of Iron Maiden!
The speed, ferocity, tone and percussiveness of his playing just captured my full attention when I realised bass could be a lot more than just lower register accompaniment. He riffs along with the guitars, adds percussion to the drums and he has such a unique tone and sound emitting from his strings, due to his playing technique.
These old rockers have still got it!

Level 42 were an absolutely fantastic band who are now barely heard of due to being a bit too ‘80’s’. I saw them at Hammersmith in December 1990 (I think) when Allan Holdsworth was filling in for the sadly departed Alan Murphy, and they were just amazing.
Right, so that at least 6 bassists name-checked now.
