So I’ve finally gotten that new workshop, it’s been almost a week now...

Unfortunately it was in rather poor shape and for whatever reason the previous tenant wasn’t required to paint. Which is unusual because as long as I’ve lived in Germany that’s been the system, outgoing tenants paint. The upside to that is whenever I move out I won’t have to either, fair enough.

In addition to not having to paint he must have thought that included not having to clean either so guess what I’ve been doing these past days?

Yup, cleaning and painting. Woo-hoo what a fookin’ blast!

The hardwood floor was also beat to hell so that gets repaired Mon - Thurs and if all goes well then I can actually move in next Friday, oh yeah!

So I’ll snap a couple of boring pics when the time comes and I’ll get some for the workbench thread as well...

Practice on scrap...

@tv101 How long have you been waiting to use those memes? Stop rampaging across the man’s thread. 🤣🤣

@mattbeels Looking forward to seeing you all set up and running in your new workshop, exciting times. Do you have a lot of room to work with? What is the square footage/meterage?

Make guitars, not war 🌍✌️🎸

Sorry @mattbeels - if I don't use them at least twice a year, I have to return them to the internet.

Luckily, they're mine for another 6 months now, so I might get to use them again ...

@mattbeels

Looks like you are getting some stick, think this means they like you.

Things must be slipping in Germany I thought it was verboten to be untidy and leave a mess for someone else to clear up.

Some people call me a tool, others are less complimentary. Tools being useful things.

Hope to get back to guitar building soon, it's a challenge doing everything yourself.

Matt - New workshop allowing for more machinery?

What's the largest bit of kit you use?

@boo

Yes! Almost exactly 40 square meters which is twice what I had in Berlin! At first it’ll feel a tad empty but I’ll take care of that. I now have the opportunity to have a cozy corner for customers to play their guitars and/or have a drink so that’ll be nice...

@rocknroller912

Yeah me too! The funny thing is that the landlord is about as chill as possible. Not like in a cool dude sort of way, he’s just very mellow and uncomplicated.

But maybe he should be a little more “German” with the outgoing tenants? 😆

@eddie6string

Yes, much bigger space than before however I don’t have any big machinery. I of course have a drill press, belt/disc sander, router and a hobby size bandsaw which has served me well for repairs and other small stuff.

But now that I’m going to be building in earnest I’m looking to upgrade the bandsaw first. Then I want to get one of those benchtop belt/spindle sanders and I’m planning on building a router sled and maybe a downdraft table.

There’s a maker space with a woodshop about 1 minute from my shop so I can use that once lockdown is over. 🤞

Thanks @robin, I’ll post some soon!

That’s great news about your workspace, I hope that you’re able to make it nice and comfortable. Will you be able to heat it for the lovely part of the year?

My new shed should be delivered on Thursday, its only 8ftx6ft but thats all I  need, in normal times I only live here for about three or four months of the year. I can put in a semi-permanent electric supply, so yes I can have heating, I've bought a little oil filled heater that should do the job.
