Hi Marcel

My wife knitted a warm scarf for me.

My wife knitted me a warm jumper. I encourage her to keep knitting, just so I can point out that I've only made one guitar while she's been knitting all these jumpers.

it looks interesting

@boo I now know what Mark means when he says that the 335 is a completely different beast from either a solid or an archtop, despite being a hybrid of both.

I think I might be in the odd situation of wanting to build a 335 style guitar that looks nothing like a 335 🙂

@boo

I'm surprised to read that you are moving to Scotland. I live in the SW between Dumfries and Carlisle, will you be anywhere near me ? Blending in with the locals by buying a Scotland shirt is a good plan as there are some areas where English people are not welcome usually where there is strong Nationalist support. I've moved here from London when I was 12 and still get problems.

The flame maple was pre joined from a previous owner who passed away but it had a big gap along the underside, so yesterday's task was to separate the join using a domestic iron over brown paper (the only thing I ever use an iron for) and a wood splitting small froe that I use for violin blocks. Lucky there was no damage to the wood and it was white glue not Titebond. I've tried pre heating acoustic sides with an iron before using a bending iron and it works too. Not a lot just hand hot.

Haven't decided on colour yet probably red over some staining and rubbing to enhance the flame. Most people would do black but I'd like to be different. I also like green and blue but these are good colours to avoid due to football connotations. I'm also not sure about what to use for the bottom half to glue the cap on to. I've got rock maple, mahogany, padauk, sapele.

Some people call me a tool, others are less complimentary. Tools being useful things.

No, I’m not really into sports, I was just being silly. We are moving higher up north in Scotland though, we haven’t found an exact location yet. Yeah I can understand about the nationalist support, I wouldn’t want to interfere with any of that, it’s not my home country but I love it. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I have family that live and work up there so it’s time to join them, we have nothing left in England to stay for. Scotland will be retirement for my wife and semi retirement for me. There are big wide open spaces and that’s what we love. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I always end up going for a warm colour on tops but I do love green and blue too. I do understand about team colours and strength of feeling so I won’t be building any team guitars. 😁

Peace and love to all.

@rocknroller912 It’s a lovely top but I bet it’s tricky trying to get it into shape for a guitar top. I sometimes wonder whether to attempt a blend of a few colours from one end to the other. I’ve seen a few online that go from say yellow to orange, to red, to purple, to blue. It’s a lot of work but I do fancy having a go with nice piece of flame maple.

@boo

Yes flame maple is quite hard to work with but I'm up for the challenge. I don't use many power tools and have some good violin gouges with a wide sweep and round sole planes which will work. I was thinking of making the bottom half body from Rock Maple partly hollowed to reduce the weight then doing a burst effect with the same colours as the flame top.

If I did the whole thing with yellow, sanded back to different levels then blue round the edges I might get a three colour burst effect - yellow, green, blue.

Some people call me a tool, others are less complimentary. Tools being useful things.

As well as the tasty meal, my clever wife also decided that I might find use for a Boss SY-1 pedal!

And I’d worried that my hints might have been too subtle.

I have got is enough shortbread, beer and whisky to sink a ship, so that will keep me busy until then.

I’d offer to help you with that @boo - but the shortbread and beer is poisonous (gluten) and I never managed to develop a taste for whisky, despite numerous distillery tours in years gone by ...

No, but the sheep are constantly leaving wool snagged under the caravan, so maybe for the next one, if only I had a spinning wheel.

 I made this many years ago during a spell of unemployment, but never finished it. I dug it out at the start of lockdown only to find that woodworm had got there before me.
