@koendb - sorry missed that - with my Firebird wings were cut on bandsaw and routed to shape but the cutoffs were still close enough to clamp - guitar looking very good!

Measure once........
Measure again.........
Sod it - make tea!

Busy busy busy.. A couple of days ago, I installed side dots , cut the fretslots to proper depth and glued the fretboard to the neck.

Routed the body yesterday, A bit nervous about the sharp horns, but to mi delight! I managed to pull it off without any tear out at all. Woohoo!

I decided to also route out the control cavity while I was on a roll.. But then disaster struck..
Everything went great, until I switched to my largest bit to get the last few mm out. I used the wrong size collar for my router bit  and I did not notice that the router bit slowly moved downwards.
So I ended up with a small hole through the front of the body.
A large part of the front of the bodyis now way too weak, so I quickly decided I will inlay a top on the wings.
So this is how it now looks.

Neck Carving day!

Roughly shaped and initial testing my oscillating spindle sander for the volute.
Still some work to be done on heel and volute, some minor imperfections on the neck to deal with. But that is for another day.

I picked up an ovangkol top from a friend, planed and sanded it to about 7mm.
Then routed out the okoume wings and glued the top on.

Another first for me, but it went alright

This is how it currently looks.

Yesterday ,I installed the frets, fret leveling , crowning and fret end dressing.

I will do the polishing afterwards. For now , I just want to get the guitar in a playable shape to get an idea of what I need to fine tune ir adjust.

Hardware is installed, nut is cut nicely and , for now, I have installed vintage overwound ceramic Wilkinson pickups.

I had some issues with the zebra pickups, 2 volume pots ( both push pulls for coil splitting purposes ) and one master tone pot .

Sounds really good for such a cheap pickups. The reason I dont use Iron Gear pickups, is that they currently stopped delivering to European main land 😕

now I need to take it all apart again and start shaping the body and prepping for finish

BTW: In your opinion, does the guitar look better with black or zebra pickups?

Looking great @koendb. 👍. I'd go for the Zebra pickups myself.

Darn! and I preferred the black ones. thats 2 against 1 already 🙂
Anyway.. @Robin Oil finish (Penetrating oil and finishing oil from Crimson ( perhaps ending with wipe on poly? Not sure yet)

And the build is finished!

I am still not sure about the pickups, but for now, these Wilkinsons will do. Both volume knobs are push pulls and I want to see what the resistor trick does to keep the volume a bit better in split mode.
