Spring claw is chrome which is hard to solder. Probably need to file away a small part to solder onto. If you get to the copper layer that should be enough as it solders well.

No, metal forms an oxide which prevents a good solder joint. Aluminium and its alloys is one of the worst and very difficult to solder or weld. Most pots are an aluminium alloy.

Ive found it cleans easily with thinners but if the wood is not sealed it will get into the grain

From memory it think it was more about the headstock angle. Think it was 11 deg

Will you use your cnc to make the frame. Flat sawn wood will take a curve more that quarter sawn i think as it warps naturally to a curve over time so you will just be accelerating the process.
