well Robin and Mark you may have the clue then….
I’ll double check my pillar drill is not wandering and do another test with a very tightly clamped piece…
Just goes to show how important to have test scrap pieces available..

I had the smae thing when I made my first telecaster..the string through holes are a total nightmare and the throat on my pillar drill was too short as well…
I sweated over that one!! but finally worked out a method…
