Thought I would have a play and do a sprayout test. Grab your sunglasses.

Im using a speedshape for this sprayout.

Before I spray these paints all over a guitar project, I need to know how these paints and flake are going to behave and ultimately how it looks when it’s done. This is why I do a test sprayout.

I put some Apple Green pearl basecoat down first (two coats). It looks great in itself but the best is yet to come.

Now I mix some flake into some clear basecoat and apply it over the Apple Green pearl. I also applied a piece of masking tape onto the green basecoat before applying the flake, this is so I can see the difference side by side, just for reference. I think they both look good, with and without the sparkle.

Time to remove the masking tape and clear coat the lot to make it all pop. 💚✨💚✨💚✨💚✨💚✨

This flake is made up of green, gold and silver flake so it has a really good flip effect to it. I’m quite pleased with how it all went and how it now looks. I put three coats of clear on and I’ll put some more on tomorrow.

That must be the greenest green that I've ever seen.

If I hadn’t seen you putting your box room workshop together, I’d have a mental image of you as a mad inventor tucked away behind thick steel doors, deep in a basement somewhere, conducting mad experiments ....

Actually, I’ve forgotten about your box room workshop now.  All I can see is the deep basement laboratory ...

🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Could you do a glossy black finish, with some sort of subtle gold flake in it (on a guitar body)?

@tv101 Yeah, anything is possible.

There is a technique called “Murdered candy” that I’ve not tried yet but it’s on my list.

Succinctly put - Put down the flake, put gold candy paint over it so you have a gold sparkly paint job. Then apply a couple of coats of black candy, so you can just about see the gold flake through it. Several coats of clear and flat and polish. That is a murdered gold candy paint job. Subtle.

*Subtle* ✨🖤😁👍

Crazy how that guy removes his respirator immediately after spraying, their extraction must be state of the art and then some!

Practice on scrap...

@mattbeels Yeah it’s so good having extraction like that, it makes a world of difference. As good as that extraction is, I would always have a mask on if it was my profession. He would keep it on too but he is making videos and wants to talk to the camera. It’s not the most sensible thing to do really but at least his extraction is world class.

This is two coats of sparkle, I’ll build up a couple more and then clear coat it all.
