As a drunk, teenage student, I once put my hand through the guard of my two bar electric fire (the only heating in my room) to check whether or not the element was getting hot! I got quite a buzz and it could quite easily have been a Darwin Award nomination for me!

@darrenking.

I remember doing the exact same thing as a wee kid Darren I also once tried to plug in the same electric fire with my fingers touching the pins and found myself flying through the air for about 8 foot across the room and back into my armchair. It all felt like it happened in slow motion. After the initial shock I felt great for hours afterwards. 🤣😮🤯

Not exactly an injury but a warning, it’s probably not a good idea to build guitars when you have covid so I’m not going to bother. Damn! 🤒😷🦠🧬

@robin Thanks, I will. It’s just really bad cold symptoms at the moment, nothing too bad (it is horrible though). I was supposed to be travelling up to Scotland next week but I don’t think that will happen now until I test negative. There are no rules for isolating now in England (stupid if you ask me) but on moral grounds I will self isolate to protect others, I’m certainly not travelling to another country. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

@boo that's crappy boo. We all just got off of quarantine today. My wife tested positive so the household needed to isolate.  She just had cold symptoms too. Everyone is good now. On a good note, I had some free time to work on my build. 🙂

@bpower Thanks, I’ll be ok, I don’t feel like doing much though. Glad you are all ok as well and that you have got some guitar stuff done. My wife tested negative so I’m trying to stay away from her so she doesn’t get it too. Johnson et al have lifted all the isolation recommendations now (stupid) but on moral grounds I am self isolating with my wife. Did any of you catch it from your wife?

@boo no. myself and the 3 kids have all tested negative. We did what we could to avoid it but I'm still surprised that we didn't get it. Makes no sense. That's why people smarter than me are making the decisions. I'll stick to building and fixing stuff. 🙂

@bpower That’s good to hear.

Yep, I agree, that’s why they are on more more money than us. 😂

Another tip is to avoid cutting the pad of your index finger with the chisel you just sharpened (while testing if it is sharp enough).

To be a bit more positive, if you didn’t feel the cut, then you must have done a good job of sharpening it!

Of course, the traditional way to check for sharpness is to see if the blade can shave hair. That’s why most cabinet makers have big, bald patches on their lower arms. As my college tutor used to say, “if it can’t cut hair, how do you expect it to cut wood”

Hey Boo! Those Ernie Balls are infectious!

Seriously though, I hope you don’t have it too bad, it all adds to community immunity in the end. Take care and take it easy until you feel better

@darrenking lol. My wife calls it hand tool woodworking induced pattern baldness. My left arm is always missing hair. 🙂

@boo

You haven’t missed anything by not travelling to Scotland. We still have high winds and some areas also snow.

Some people call me a tool, others are less complimentary. Tools being useful things.

@rocknroller912 Yeah but….but……but it’s not England. I’m bored of England. I want my Scotland. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 😭

Am I being a baby? I am, I’m being a baby.

I’m kind of hallucinating a bit I think. 😵‍💫

I've been a bit smug reading these injury posts and congratulating myself for being a careful worker. I really should've known better, thankfully the chisel was a wee bit dull and its just a scratch.
