I finally got started on my bandsman, this is my third build, my first since finding the site and live streams. Decided to make up a laminate neck blank and ended up having a slight issue with the thickness at the headstock probably should have just done a scarf, but ended up just adding a cut off on the tip to make up for it. Other than than that its been pretty smooth.

@osceola

I think it looks killer! You did a great job on that volute too.

That fretboard looks awesome as well, what kind of wood is it?

UPDATE

Well I have gotten about as far as I can go for now till it warms up a bit, its about 19F here now and not looking like its going to warm up for a bit. Ill probably make a veneer for the headstock in the meantime and maybe get a blank ready for my next build.

Laminated necks just look great and, so long as you can get them glued up properly, are actually a great way of building very strong and stable necks from smaller sections of timber.

What a fantastic first build, awesome!

Just don't treat the top as "sacrificial" like Mark does with his bench tops @osceola 😉

finally warmed up some and I was able to put clear on this, I wasn't happy with the way the top was looking so I sanded it down and went at it again, I put my final coat of clear on it today, Im headed to Hobart Saturday to my buddy's shop to buff it, put it together and do the set up on it! Nearly there, that clear is all rattle can btw.

@osceola Yeah! Great finishes are totally achievable with rattle cans, this is a great example. Well done, it looks stunning. I love the way you have done the colours too, I can’t wait to see the finished product when it’s all built up. 👍

@osceola

Right on, looks like it’s coming right along. The stain burst looks really cool!

I like your homemade spraying stick but where do you let the guitar dry/gas off after spraying, in the garage?

That looks *very* nice.

I like the subtle blending of colour, the shine looks shiny (even before buffing), and - best of all - that beautiful grain pattern is still very visible.

Nice work sir!
