I need to make some better neck & neck pocket templates and there's still room for improvement on the finish but overall I'm really pleased how this turned out (think I just about covered up the router tear out on the headstock).

I barely had to tweak the intonation or action height and plays really nice already.

Next one is going to be unique body shape HSS in purple (not my favourite colour but promised my daughter she could choose)

@rockpile99 Nice work, looks cool, a bit like a Kramer Pacer (the body shape).

You are not the only one that needs to get a better fit with neck and pocket templates, it’s high on my list.

Thanks Boo and well spotted. When creating my first body template I just copied my Kramer 120 (early 90's Korean model) and changed the neck heel, belly carve, and did round over the edges as much. (I originally planned to do a different shape on this one but that would have meant a non-essential trip to the shops for MDF so I used the template I had).

@rockpile99 - if you buy enough of it, you can get it delivered for free from most builders merchants.

😆

I've lost track of the number of MDF sheets that I've bought through the years ... and OSB, and plywood, and then the number of planks of actual wood ...

@rockpile99

It looks great. I especially like the headstock, it looks a bit like a Caparison. Excellent work!

Practice on scrap...

Thanks @cheesewhisk There's still the odd bit of orange peel here and there but I'd rather have that than rub through the finish. If I had a spray booth (rather than using cans in my back garden) then I'd probbaly feel more confident rubbing back ...

I love the contrast between the high gloss of the body and slightly sinister satin/matt black/dark purple of the neck. Very cool!

I've got a nice Stew Mac neck template in clear Perspex with marks for centre line etc but my neck master templates (CNC'd 60's Strat) that I got from Ebay when I first started don't exactly match in the corners, which means a certain amount of tweaking before the neck fits neatly.

My plan is to use the neck pocket template to create the heel section of a new neck template, but use my existing neck template (with flush trim router bit) to create the rest.

My ultimate ambition is to create a neck joint that's good enough to have set neck instead of bolt-on.
